Strategy

WMRR’s Strategic Business Plan sets out the Association’s vision to be Australia’s leading national peak body for the waste and resource recovery (WARR) industry and its mission to advocate for a systems-based approach to managing materials throughout their lifecycle.

The Plan positions the WARR industry as an essential service and a key enabler of Australia’s transition to a circular economy, recognising its role in creating jobs, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, improving resource efficiency and supporting economic growth. It commits WMRR to championing the waste management hierarchy, evidence-based policy and collaboration across governments, industry and the broader supply chain to maximise the value of recovered resources.

To deliver these outcomes, the Strategic Business Plan outlines a program of national and state-based initiatives that strengthen WMRR’s advocacy, industry leadership and member services. National priorities include driving policy reform, improving sustainable procurement, developing a knowledge hub, expanding professional development and accreditation, delivering conferences and networking opportunities, and increasing industry engagement through evidence-based publications and training.

State and territory initiatives complement these national priorities by addressing jurisdiction-specific policy reforms, infrastructure planning, education, procurement, organics processing, levy reform and market development, ensuring WMRR delivers coordinated advocacy while responding to the unique needs of members across Australia.
