WMRR advocates for a harmonised system of landfill levies applied across Australia; a minimum 50% hypothecation rate of levies returned to industry; and a legislated proximity principle to prevent the long-distance transport of waste. The Levy Rates for 2026-27 across state/territories are summarised below.

Trackable liquid waste: $96.50 per tonne. (The levy rate for the Jun-Aug 2026 quarter which extends across two (2) financial years is $95.50).

The coal washery rejects: $18.70 per tonne.
