Commercial, grants and funding
- [new] Funding of $2 million to establish new Bird Flu Wildlife Resilience Grants, has been fast tracked boosting Western Australia’s preparedness for H5 avian influenza. The package includes $1,500–$10,000 grants for licensed wildlife rehabilitators to support immediate biosecurity and rehabilitation activities, and larger grants of up to $200,000 for organisations delivering longer‑term wildlife management and resilience projects. This accelerated funding strengthens surveillance, expands laboratory and field capability, and supports training and protective equipment to ensure WA can rapidly respond to any future bird flu detections. - More than $3.7 million in Recycling Modernisation Fund (RMF) grants have been awarded for 16 regional and remote local government projects across Western Australia to strengthen recycling infrastructure and resource recovery. The funding will support upgrades to transfer stations, recycling hubs, improving the collection, sorting, storage and recycling of plastics, paper, cardboard and end-of-life tyres affected by Australia’s waste export bans. The program builds on 14 previously funded WA projects that have increased the State’s recycling capacity by more than 237,700 tonnes annually, with the new projects expected to be completed by 30 June 2027.
- Applications are now open for the 2026–2027 WasteSorted Community Education Grants, supporting local projects that inspire better waste habits across WA. Grants of up to $25,000 are available for initiatives that drive behaviour change, align with WasteSorted and Be a GREAT Sort messaging, and target priority waste materials. Community groups, not for profits, local governments, industry bodies and businesses are all eligible to apply. Applications close at 12pm (WST) on Monday 17 August 2026.
