PRE-CONFERENCE: TUESDAY, 24 JUNE 2025

  WORKSHOP

  12:00pm
  - 5:00pm

Utility-scale thermal Energy-from-Waste (EfW) is emerging in Australia as private-sector solution to a whole-of-government goal: achieving better environmental and economic outcomes than landfilling residual waste.

While every State and Territory in Australia is addressing this goal differently, ultimate responsibility for dealing with household waste sits with local government, and for them Energy from Waste presents both a significant opportunity and a complex challenge. To support Councils in their knowledge and understanding this space, WMRR is hosting a half-day workshop designed specifically for local government decision-makers.

This workshop will cover the current state of EfW development in Australia, why these projects are so difficult to develop, how local governments stand to benefit, and what they can do to take a proactive role in shaping a more sustainable future for Australia.

Check out the full workshop program here.
