The Waste Management and Resource Recovery Association of Australia (WMRR) is the national peak body that leads the success of the Waste and Resource Recovery (WARR) sector.
WMRR represents more than 2,300 members from approximately 400 entities spanning the breadth and depth of the WARR sector including representation from business organisations, the three (3) tiers of government, universities, and Non-Government Organisations (NGOs) and research bodies.
WMRR’s diverse membership spans the breadth and depth of the Australian waste and resource recovery (WARR) sector, representing all stakeholders in Australia’s essential WARR sector, which has an annual industry output of $19 billion and supports 39,300 direct jobs.
WMRR’s members are involved in a diverse range of activities in the Australian economy including infrastructure investment and operations, collection, remanufacturing of valuable products from resource recovered materials, carbon management and mitigation, energy recovery, responsible management of residual materials as well as behavioural change and education.
As advocates for the waste and resource management hierarchy—prioritising waste avoidance, reuse, repair, recycling, composting and energy recovery ahead of disposal—WMRR supports the transition to a circular economy in which recovered resources replace virgin materials in both domestic and international markets.
WMRR has a governance Board of Directors including members elected President and Vice- President, which consists of elected members, Peak members and skilled directors.
WMRR also has a professional National office that supports the activities of the Association and the sector.
Our members actively participate in State Branch Committees and Working Groups at the national, state, and specific industry level, which coupled with WMRR’s Strategic Plan informs our policy and advocacy efforts on behalf of the sector.
