South Australia

South Australia generated 5.1 million tonnes of waste in the latest reporting period and achieved an overall resource recovery rate of 82.7%. The municipal solid waste (MSW) sector generated 899,000 tonnes of waste, with 61% recovered. The commercial and industrial (C&I) sector generated 1.56 million tonnes, achieving a 74% recovery rate, while the construction and demolition (C&D) sector generated 2.33 million tonnes and achieved a 98% recovery rate. Based on the most recent available economic assessment, the waste and resource recovery sector contributes $1.37 billion to the South Australian economy annually and employs more than 4,400 people. WMRR represents more than 250 individual members from over 45 organisations across South Australia

The Waste Levy for 2026-27 is $171 for metro areas, and $85.50 for non-metro areas

Advocate for policies and initiatives that will assist SA in achieving its 70% diversion rate, including the effective use and application of the waste levy.
Advocate for consistent and accurate state-wide education including reducing contamination in C&I and MSW streams.

Northern Territory

The Northern Territory generated 408,250 tonnes of waste in the latest reporting period and achieved an overall resource recovery rate of 34.8%. The municipal solid waste (MSW) sector generated 98,220 tonnes of waste, with 39% recovered. The commercial and industrial (C&I) sector generated 126,711 tonnes, achieving a 10% recovery rate, while the construction and demolition (C&D) sector generated 71,759 tonnes and achieved a 23% recovery rate. Based on the most recent available economic assessment, the waste and resource recovery sector contributes $52 million to the Northern Territory economy annually and employs around 650 people.
