Victoria
Victoria generated 15.7 million tonnes of waste in the latest reporting period and achieved an overall resource recovery rate of 69.9%. The municipal solid waste (MSW) sector generated 3.37 million tonnes of waste, with 63% recovered. The commercial and industrial (C&I) sector generated 3.62 million tonnes, achieving a 53% recovery rate, while the construction and demolition (C&D) sector generated 6.67 million tonnes and achieved an 84% recovery rate. Based on the most recent available economic assessment, the waste and resource recovery sector contributes $3.72 billion to the Victorian economy annually and employs more than 12,300 people. WMRR represents more than 530 individual members from over 90 organisations across Victoria.
The waste levy for 2026–27 is $177.19 per tonne for metro areas. For regional areas, it is $88.42 per tonne for municipal waste, and $155.95 per tonne for industrial waste.
WMRR STATE INITIATIVES
- Develop a one (1)-day conference for Victoria in 2023 that will be built on and grown over the next three (3) years.
- Advocate for state and local government procurement of secondary raw material, industry collaboration with MAV to formalise an in-principle agreement that will drive council procurement of products containing secondary raw materials
