WMRR welcomes Federal Environment Minister appointment

The Waste Management and Resource Recovery Association of Australia (WMRR), the national peak body for all stakeholders in the waste and resource recovery industry, welcomes the appointment of the Hon. Sussan Ley MP as Australia’s next Federal Environment Minister.

WMRR also welcomes the announcement of Australia’s first Assistant Minister for Waste Reduction and Environmental Management, Mr Trevor Evans MP.

“It was clear that for the first time in Federal election history, waste and resource recovery were on the minds of our politicians, and WMRR is pleased to see Prime Minister Scott Morrison going a step further by allocating extra resources to our essential and important portfolio,” WMRR CEO, Ms Gayle Sloan, said.

“WMRR congratulates both the Minister and Assistant Minister and looks forward to working with them on the commitments made by the Government ahead of the Election. Once the dust settles, WMRR will be engaging with Minister Ley on how we can move forward - effectively drawing that link between the environment and the economy, so that our essential waste and resource recovery industry maximises the opportunities at hand to not only protect the environment, but grow local jobs and the economy.”
