Kent von Maubeuge, IGS council member, was born in New York in 1957, lived in New York and Yokohama, before he moved to Germany. He studied civil engineering and in 1985 obtained his Master of Science. Since then, he has worked with two major geosynthetic manufacturers and has been involved in research and development of all geosynthetics. For more than 25 years, he has been an active member of various associations, such as ASTM, DIN, CEN and ISO. He is also a member of ASTM International and is especially involved in standards for GCLs and is chairman of ASTM Committee D35.04 GCLs. 

Kent von Maubeuge is the convenor for the Working Group WG6 (Geosynthetic Barriers) for CEN Technical Committee TC 189 and chairman of the TC-Barrier Systems of IGS. He also serves on the Board of Advisors for the Geosynthetic Institute, Folsom, USA (since 2002) and lectures geosynthetics on two German universities. 

Kent has published and presented many international papers on geosynthetics and has contributed to numerous conferences throughout the world. For a German geosynthetics manufacturer (NAUE) he is Director of Product Marketing/Management and is also involved in product development and international concerns. As an IGS Council member, Kent von Maubeuge is chairman of the Corporate Committee and the Technical Committee on Barrier Systems and will continue the internationally-minded work of the IGS.  He is interested in the continuation of geosynthetic activities while helping to develop new activities which will aid in the expansion of knowledge and technological development of geosynthetics world-wide. His current position at NAUE GmbH & Co. KG – a world-wide operating geosynthetic manufacturer – is Director Corporate Identity & Corporate Communication and Senior Product Manager.

At the GeoMEast 2018, Cairo Kent was honoured to present the 2nd Robert Koerner Honor Lecture (Geosynthetic Institute Official Lecture) “Geosynthetic Barriers in regulations and recommendations in line with the ISO design guide.”.
