QLD LNP sees the road ahead is green…

The Waste Management and Resource Recovery Association of Australia has welcomed the Queensland LNP’s announcement today that it has a ‘visionary plan’ to make the state the nation’s leader in recycling.

Queenslanders will go to the polls on 31 October and if elected, the LNP says it will make Queensland the ‘recycling state’ by supporting recycling R&D, banning batteries and e-waste from landfills, fast tracking approvals for recycling infrastructure, and establishing a solar panel recycling industry.

“WMRR congratulates the LNP for being future-focused and seeing that the waste and resource recovery (WARR) industry can play a significant role in creating jobs, building local economies, and protecting communities and the environment,” WMRR CEO, Ms Gayle Sloan, said.

“In Queensland, the WARR sector currently employs close to 12,000 people and contributes $1.5 billion to the state economy. In putting WARR on the election agenda, the LNP is effectively pushing for continued growth and development of the industry, which will no doubt lead to more jobs and more opportunities.

“WMRR supports this approach to our essential industry and would further encourage all parties to also consider how it can manage other large quantities of recycled materials in Queensland, for example, the use recycled glass in the construction of roads and other civil works, creating local jobs and investment throughout all of Queensland. The opportunities across material streams are boundless!

“WMRR commends the LNP for its green ambition and efforts in driving resource recovery; the devil is in the details and we look forward to working with all parties to collectively build a strong and sustainable Queensland economy based on circular principles,” Ms Sloan said.
