Research Chair in Climate Science & Policy, St. Francis Xavier University
David holds a Research Chair in Climate Science & Policy at St. Francis Xavier University’s Brian Mulroney Institute of Government in Nova Scotia, Canada. As leader of the 25-strong FluxLab team, he has overseen ecological gas flux studies that span the globe, from the Arctic to Antarctica, has quantified methane and other emissions at thousands of on- and off-shore oil and gas sites, and in recent years has surveyed more than 150 landfills in North and South America. During the past year alone, FluxLab delivered projects on three continents and collaborated with space-, air-, and ground-based sensor companies in eight countries. The group operates the world’s only full scale landfill emissions simulation facility, providing regulators, industry, and technology developers a unique test bed for refining next generation methane measurement methods. Passionate about translating science into impact, Risk advises established firms and spins out new ventures to meet emerging climate technology needs.
