The Waste Management & Resource Recovery Association of Australia (WMRR) is pleased to announce the Women of Waste Leadership Breakfast is being held on Wednesday 1 May 2019 at Treetops in Melbourne Museum. This event is designed to recognise women who are driving change in industry, and in doing so, are breaking down barriers and are creating new career prospects for the next generation.

DR CATHY WILKINSON

Chief Executive Officer, EPA Victoria

Dr Cathy Wilkinson is a senior executive with significant public sector experience leading the development and implementation of major policy and regulatory reforms for the Victorian Government in the planning, water and environment portfolios. Between 2006 and 2013 she was based in Sweden where she consulted to governments across Europe, completed a PhD at the Stockholm Resilience Centre and led projects with the Arctic Council, Rockefeller Foundation and the African Centre for Cities. Following her return to Australia in early 2013, Dr Wilkinson worked as an Executive Director with the Victorian Government, first leading major integrated urban water management reform and then regulatory, policy and applied science reforms with Environment Protection Authority Victoria (EPA). In August 2018, Dr Wilkinson was appointed to the position of Chief Executive Officer at EPA.

 

KAREN GOMEZ

Chief Executive, Paintback

Karen is an experienced leader in product stewardship, building on a career as a senior executive operating nationally and internationally in a range of sectors, including manufacturing, telecommunications, motor club services and finance.

Paintback Ltd operates the Australian paint industry’s Paintback®, a national initiative to take responsibility for its end-of-life product and find innovative new ways to repurpose its inherent valuable resources.  She was the inaugural CEO of Agstewardship Australia, established to provide strategic overview and fund rural chemical stewardship programs.  

Karen was also appointed to Federal Government’s Product Stewardship Advisory Group. Karen is committed to Australia’s social balance sheet, having contributed to disability and community services as a director of Focus ACT disability services and as a member of the ACT and SA Business Committees for the Salvation Army. 

 

KIRSTIN COOTE

Principle Waste and Amenity, City of Melbourne

Kirstin Coote is a Waste and Resource Recovery lifer who has worked in state and local governments both overseas and here in Australia. After spending nearly two decades working in waste she knows what drives critical conversions, is making a comeback and still requires more collective thinking at all levels of government to really make the difference.

Kirstin is Principal Waste and Amenity at the City Of Melbourne and also vice president of the WMRR Victoria Branch. In addition to her extensive waste experience, Kirstin is also a nationally accredited riding coach.
