VIC Women of WARR Leadership Breakfast

The Waste Management & Resource Recovery Association of Australia (WMRR) invites you to our annual Victorian Women of WARR Leadership Breakfast at the State Library on Thursday, 17 February 2022. This much-loved event is designed to celebrate women in our industry who are driving change, and in doing so, breaking down barriers and creating new career prospects for the next generation.





Deputy Secretary, Policy and Strategy Performance,
Department of Education and Training

Kylie White is the Deputy Secretary, Policy and Strategy Performance in the Department of Education and Training. She commenced in this role on 24 May 2021.

Previously Kylie was the Deputy Secretary, Environment and Climate Change in the Victorian Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning (DELWP) and prior to that was the Executive Director, Energy, Resources and Environment in the Department of Premier and Cabinet.

Kylie has a Bachelor of Forest Science, a Master of Science (Environmental Management) and is a graduate of the Advanced Management Program from Harvard Business School. 

Previous roles have included senior roles in DELWP, Department of State Development, Business and Innovation, Department of Economic Development, Jobs, Transport and Resources and Interim CEO at the Latrobe Valley Authority.



Founder & CEO, Yume Food Australia

Katy Barfield is Australia’s leading food waste warrior. Instead of just talking about the issues, she has dedicated the past 15 years to doing something about it.  As the founding CEO of SecondBite, she led the organisation until 2012 when they redistributed over two million kilograms per year.

Determined to find a way to dramatically reduce the 4.1 million tonnes of food going to waste in the commercial food sector each year Katy created Yume, Australia's first surplus food online marketplace in 2016. The award-winning social enterprise - one of only two companies globally using technology to offer an innovative market for surplus food works with market leaders like Unilever and Kellogg’s and has sold 2,700,000kgs of quality surplus food, returning $7.5 million to Australian farmers and manufacturers.



CEO, Tyre Stewardship Australia (TSA)

Lina has more than 20 years’ experience in resource recovery and environmental innovation, bringing together projects and partners to deliver business and environmental improvements that also increase and enhance reputation.

Lina started her career at Visy Recycling which spanned 14 years and included roles in Marketing, Sales and Municipal Contracts. Later joining Honeywell to deliver one of the nation’s largest energy performance contracts.

At TIC Group, Lina was the General Manager of Marketing and Head of Sales, she was instrumental in delivering circular economy benefits through TIC’s Mattress Recycling, Reverse Logistics and Solvup businesses.

In Lina’s short time at TSA, she has developed and implemented a strong strategic and operational direction both locally and internationally, whilst leading the Scheme to receive Australian Government Accreditation for best Product Tyre Stewardship. Lina’s pragmatic, action-oriented, determined and approachable leadership has revived the TSA.

With a Bachelor of Business and a Masters in Business (Marketing), Lina now maintains an active, passionate involvement with Resource Equity; an organisation that works to empower, increase and improve women’s rights to land.
