Waste Technical Due Diligence Specialist, Ricardo

David has over 15 years’ experience in the waste sector and over 25 years’ experience within mechanical and civil engineering and project management in the UK and internationally. With wide knowledge and expert understanding of strategic planning and business development of the UK and EU waste markets, he has provided support to some of the UK’s largest waste companies at a strategic level, as well as providing pivotal support to SMEs. This has included recent due diligence projects examining the delivery of a number of EfW projects in Australia from several different technology types.

David’s due diligence work has also included technical and commercial review of supporting fuel supply agreements the thermal treatment plants.  This has provided owners, developers, private investors, equity groups and banks the assurance required to place critical funding to develop waste infrastructure. David has spent the most recent part of his career delivering the types of waste infrastructure that he was previously analysing. This provides an unprecedented perspective of the challenges that face developers, investors, EPC contractors and the global supply chain that are looking to support the deployment of UK waste infrastructure capable of meeting the needs of this complex sector. 

David has the capacity and knowledge to support and advise on the design, resourcing and construction of major processing plants in excess of £120m in capital value. He has led and managed teams to deliver the most complex and challenging of waste infrastructure projects, including gasification technology and large and complex material sorting facilities.  Currently he is Project Director on a project developing the feasibility of managing the treatment of 1.3m tonnes of waste per annum.  He is also owners engineer to a project that will produce 65 million litres of development transport fuel per year from 250,000 tonnes per annum of waste wood.
His previous positions have allowed him to understand the key financial drivers for developers and investors, and also the drivers and commercial tensions that affect EPC contractors and the supply chain. He is an energetic negotiator and planner with operational experience at Director level.
