The Victorian Branch of the Waste Management and Resource Recovery Association (WMRR) invite you to join them for an informative session on Container Deposit Schemes, on Thursday, 5 March 2020 in the Melbourne CBD.

Hear from four (4) highly regarded speakers, who will cover all things CDS, including strategy, planning and implementation, as they share the lessons learned and insights gained through the roll-out of the NSW, Queensland and ACT schemes. 

The forum will be followed by networking drinks.

ALEX YOUNG 
Director, CDS Policy and Compliance,
Department of Planning, Industry and Environment

Alex Young has been instrumental in the design and implementation of the NSW CDS and continues to play a senior role in the scheme. Prior to development of the NSW CDS, Alex was involved in the national investigation of container deposit schemes that ran from 2008 to 2013.

Beyond CDS, Alex has worked in the NSW Government on waste and recycling issues since 2002, where he has managed programs on commercial and industrial waste, product stewardship and the delivery of the Waste Less, Recycle More program. Alex has more than twenty years’ experience in the environment field, including working on waste and recycling issues in the UK, Sweden, Poland and the United States.

 		  
JAMES DORNEY
CEO, TOMRA Cleanaway

TOMRA Cleanaway is the Network Operator for the NSW Container Deposit Scheme “Return & Earn”, and is a Joint Venture between ASX Listed Cleanaway (ASX: CWY) and Norwegian listed multinational TOMRA (OSE:TOM). 

James has over twenty years’ experience in senior leadership and managerial roles across a range of industries both in Australia and overseas. Prior to his current role, James most recent role was CEO of Autocare Services (majority owned by Brookfield Infrastructure) and prior to this was Group General Manager of Patrick Port Logistics (part of Asciano). 

James has an Economics Degree and a Law Degree from the University of Sydney, and an MBA from the Australian Graduate School of Management.
 
    
GARTH LAMB
Chief Development Officer, Re.Group

Garth was hauled into the waste game as editor of Inside Waste magazine, before moving to Hyder Consulting (now Arcadis) where he headed up Australia’s leading team of strategic waste advisors. Having worked with all levels of government, and private sector operators, he understands the complexities and challenges around sustainable waste management.

In 2014 he took up a post with Re.Group, an innovate Australian company that specialises in building and operating infrastructure to recover resources from waste – part of the critical infrastructure required in any modern society. As the Chief Development Officer, his role involves helping clients deliver sustainable solutions for their communities across all urban waste streams.

 		  
ROB KELMAN
Director, Reloop Pacific

Rob Kelman has been engaged for around 15 years in Australia advocating for and more recently developing container deposit/ refund schemes. 

Most recently Rob has represented technology providers to CD schemes across the NSW, QLD and WA government processes designing those states CD schemes. 

Rob is now transitioning this work to include a broader circular economy focus consulting to a European based organisation called the Reloop Platform. This organisation has been pivotal to moves in the EU for a phase out of single use plastics, advocating for refillable containers as well as CR schemes across the EU.   Rob is also Executive Officer of the Australian Tyre Recyclers Association (ATRA).
