Webinar | Best practice in Australian LFG management
The National Landfill Division of the Waste Management and Resource Recovery Association of Australia (WMRR) invites you to join them online on Tuesday, 22 September 2020 for the first of two live webinars to discuss landfill gas management.

In this webinar two experts in the field will present an overview  and examples of current best practice LFG recovery at Australian landfills, covering both larger sites with commercial scale energy recovery and smaller sites using flares and operational practices to minimise emissions.

The webinar will be facilitated by WMRR CEO, Gayle Sloan and Paul Lightbody of Mockinya Consulting.

DR JON VARCOE
Environment & Innovation Group Manager, LMS ENERGY

Dr Jon Varcoe is group manager of LMS’s environment and innovation team; leading the ongoing development of specialist biogas, renewable energy and emissions abatement technologies. His role builds upon LMS’s pioneering development of the landfill biogas industry over almost 4 decades, which has contributed to LMS’s current position as Australia’s largest abater of greenhouse gas emissions.  Jon combines a PhD in earth sciences with almost 20 years’ experience as a professional scientist, specialising in project optimisation and environmental risk management. Although the majority of his career has been dedicated to the management of landfill biogas, Jon has also worked in a number of related industries including: biotechnology, agriculture, contaminated lands and petroleum exploration. Outside of LMS, Jon has a secondary professional interest in minimising food waste generation, as a partner in a Mexican restaurant!

     
DR STUART DEVER
Principal Engineer,  Kimbriki Environmental Enterprises

Dr Stuart Dever is Principal Engineer at the Kimbriki Resource Recovery Centre, which is located at Terrey Hills in northern Sydney.  He is also a visiting lecturer (waste management) at the University of New South Wales (since 2009).  Stuart has more than 25 years’ experience working in the waste management industry and has worked on a wide range of projects encompassing waste management policy and planning; planning, design, construction, operation and monitoring of landfill facilities; facility approvals and licensing; investigation and remediation of old landfill sites; waste minimisation and recycling; waste treatment and energy recovery facilities.  Stuart has particular expertise in landfill leachate and gas management.

Prior to joining Kimbriki Stuart worked as a consultant for more than 20 years and worked on a wide range of projects, for all levels of government and industry, across Australia as well as on projects in Malaysia and the South Pacific.

Stuart has given more than 50 presentations at local, regional, national and international seminars, conferences and symposium, including events in Australia, Japan, the United States and Europe.
Stuart is a Chartered Professional Engineer and is registered on the National Engineering Register.  His qualifications include a 1st Class Honours Degree in Civil Engineering (University of Technology Sydney, 1989), a Master of Engineering Science in Waste Management (University of NSW, 1993), and a PhD at the University of NSW (2009).  .
